Statement

I started making photographs at around 11 or so, and by 13 was in the darkroom. My Grandmother was a photographer and I inherited her Graflex and Rollieflex. I foolishly traded them for a Nikon FM and a 28mm 2.8. I loved figuring out how to put the world into that wide lens.
After living a few years in London, I studied photography at San Francisco State University and the SF Art Institute. From there travelled to Asia: India, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, China, Bhutan, Taiwan, Korea.
For me, photography is an alchemical process. Collecting the light that exists in front of me, I draw it into my lens. There it undergoes the alchemy part, transformation of the light into a reflection of the essence of my subject, be it human, fauna or flora, rocks or trees or water.
My sincere hope is that the viewer feels this essence as it enters into their own eyes and soul.
I wIll always be learning….

About tea…
Tea is so simple: leaf and water.
Drinking tea is simple, relaxed, natural, flowing, elegant, easy.
Yet in this simple act….we can step into the present and join the tea in the moment.
